AN ILLUMINATING IDEA

The Whitehouse Bar in Maryhill will soon be transformed thanks to a unique new lighting project.

Leading design firm Collective Architecture is working closely with young people throughout the Maryhill area to devise a new lighting scheme for the landmark building with the dynamic new look, entitled ‘Pulse’, set to be unveiled in the coming weeks. The project incorporates a fascinating musical element with young people learning about the science of music and the canal and then incorporating this into the installation.

The project is being driven forward by The Waterways Trust Scotland and Impact Arts, with support from the Glasgow Canal Regeneration Partnership. Leading from this, the Partnership has now commissioned a further study to identify alternative uses for the Whitehouse Bar in the years ahead. Lighting is an important theme along the canal and from the end of March the historic Maryhill Burgh Halls will also take on a new appearance thanks to a truly illuminating project. Look out for the photos in a future Newsletter!
